AFTERNOON CLASS
Our last field trip involved engaging in a bug program at the John Janzen Nature Centre.
~We started by learning about bees. Jenn was transformed into the bossy Queen bee, and we learned an action song about bee body parts.
~Then we played a butterfly game whereby we went through metamorphosis like a caterpillar would experience. We started as eggs and then transformed into larvae (caterpillars), pupae (chrysalis), and butterflies. "This is just like baseball!" Duncan exclaimed. (And it was, our guide had set out four circle mats in a diamond shape, which we were running around.)
~After, we became detectives and searched for bugs. We captured them, had a close look, admired them with classmates, and returned them to their habitats: IT WAS SO FUN!!
~Snack time was followed by studying a butterfly's life cycle and touching the Garder snake named Veronica.
~Lastly, we observed a bee hive, learned about the queen, worker, and drone bees, played in the amazing gym, and ended with a sharing circle!
We had an awesome time and want to extend a big thank you to the parents and children for making our learning experience so fun!!
