WHAT AN AMAZING FIELD VISIT TO 4 CATS CALGARY TRAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for all the adults whose help made the beautful drawings and paints we worked on so hard today possible! We celebrated our 100th day of school in true JK fashion! The morning class decided they wanted to dress up (in pajamas, costume or fancy clothes), bring a stuffie or blanket to class, a, and have special lighting at snack. The afternoon class was more interested in big projects ( a monster truck, a police station, 100 names (including PAW Patrol names), 100 princesses, queens & mermaids, 100 dinosaurs, 100 hammers stacked together, 100 special snacks name just a few. You can view our display of what 100 looks like next week.
Bravo to the children for guiding their parents and families through Junior Kindergarten as the "Teacher"! Enjoy browsing the photos of the children as they showcased the following: 1. The Paw Patrol/Animal house. 2. Music with Frieda: Visiting the farm, the jungle, the ocean....or in many cases, all three! 3. Leading calendar: Counting the days, reading the important dates. 4. Their journals and making a new entry to honour the special day! 5. Their binders: Browsing new work, new photos, and reading a new learning story. 6. A mapping game: Using a map to guide a Mama animal to her baby! 7. A visit with Ann or Jenn! Morning Class Celebration Afternoon Class Celebration
On Thursday, playing in the courtyard was spectacular. In the afternoon, as the snow was warm enough to roll massive snowballs!
We are delighted to introduce you to our snow people: Tomcat Ferdinand, Eva, Lion Chaser and Olaf!! Enjoy viewing a few moments captured at our TELUS World of Science field visit.
We participated in an excellent program about bubbles. Did you know... 1. Bubble like wet! 2. Bubbles are spheres. 3. Bubbles have colours. Discovery Land was AWESOME. The children playfully explored the airplane, building, music, and water experiences. Some children also visited the Angry Birds exhibit. It was really busy in the morning, so we skipped it in the afternoon. A special thank you goint out to: the adults who volunteered to come on the field visit, and the incredible program leaders. You made the visit extra incredible!!
Our dramatic play area has been transformed into an Animal Neighbourhood!!
Boxes are used to create buildings, homes, caves, and beds. With rocks, wood beads, coloured scarves, ribbon, and pompoms the children are taking care of the animals' needs. Our old friend, Chester the raccoon puppet, has returned to JK to share his story "Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully," written by Audrey Penn. Chester told the children that he was concerned about the animal neighbourhood because some of the animals (shark & snake) are known to be agressive, like the badger in his story. He was wondering how the children could encourage the animals to be friendly, respectful and safe. Chester read a few pages from the class' Great Expectation book to help the children think of a few ideas of how the animals might act in friendly ways. This was followed by a discussion circle and these are the children's responses: MORNING CLASS Alexander: They can play games together. Jude: They shouldn't hurt each other. They should be gentle with each other. Caleb: They can share food. Coraline: They can make music together. Alice: Share animals. Rhea: They can walk together. Winston: pass Aviva: They can eat food together. Thomas: They can build towers and a school. Sophia: Share snack. Bryten: They can share ideas. Owen: They can share blankets and rooms. Rayanna: They can pass the basket at super time. Elena: Make cake together. Isabelle: Add more food like meat. Sharks and snakes are carnivoires. If we give them meat, they won't eat the other animals! Reem: pass Andrew: Make marbles. AFTERNOON CLASS Amaiya: Play together. Zara: Share toys. Julia: Play catch ball. Connor: Make yellow things (smooth yellow rocks-like in the book) Chloe: Read books together. Eva: Work as a team, be team players. Luca: Sing and dance. Jacob: pass Victoria: Share a game. The other children were absent. Note: Thinking about how others can be friendly, respectful, and safe requires high level thinking and empathy. PROUD! We are so proud of the children and their thoughtful answers and play! |
