This week we built and began to use two puppet theatres. Lauren remembered the video clip of the marionette puppet show from the Sound of Music Frieda shared in music class, and suggested we needed a curtain and some purple because "I just love purple!" Maia thought we should have mountains, so maybe we'll construct those next week to make a back drop. When conducting an inquiry, the children's ideas are golden because they shape the ebb and flow of our learning experiences.
Surprisingly, knowing how to use puppets is hard work! We'll have to share ideas about puppet shows. If we think about what we like when watching puppet shows, we may be able to learn what we do to create puppet performances.
Many, many puppets were created in the past few days. We started with paper bags and then started to use socks (thanks for the idea Kenneth's Grandma Sandy). It has been fun using the materials, brought in the brown bags, to add features to the puppets. We've heard, "Hey, that came from my house!" many times!
We are asking the children to help with the documentation by videoing themselves speaking about their creation. It's a work in progress!
