Earlier this month we began to explore the book My Granny Went to Market (Stella Blackstone and Christopher Corr) during our music classes. This counting book has Granny flying all over the world on her flying carpet, stopping to buy things along the way. Each class focuses on one of Granny’s stops: we hear music from that country and read a story or sing a song from that place as well. We mark on the map where we go each day. This is generating lots of conversation about travel; our children have been to many different places!
So far we have visited Turkey (October 9), Thailand (October 14) and Mexico (October 16 and 21) and China (October 23 and 28). Our tentative future travel schedule is: Switzerland (October 31 and November 4), Kenya (November 13 and 18), Russia (November 20 and 25), Australia (December 2 and 4), Japan (December 9 and 11), and Peru (December 16). If you or your child has music, songs, or stories to share from any of these places, let Frieda know! ([email protected].
